Unit 53 2D Animation Production
Introduction and Unit Aims
Animation has become an increasingly important media form and examples can be seen in platforms as different as advertising, feature films, mobile phone content, the internet and television. Good animation skills are also important in the computer games industry.
This unit focuses on developing your skills in the production of 2D animations using traditional or digital techniques, or a combination of the two. Learners will work on design, character, setting and narrative whilst also developing production techniques. Learners will be encouraged to experiment with both content and technique.
You will also need to research the content and production techniques used in historical and contextual animation sources. This background research will inform your own work.
You will then go on to look at the production of walk cycles with audio and finally to produce an animated short story based on a popular text.
In order to develop your understanding and skills, you will need to keep your intended audience constantly in mind, and to that end, your animation work will be exhibited to audiences after completion and responses evaluated.
Unit 72 Drawing Concept Art for Computer Games
Introduction and Unit Aims
The aim of this unit is to develop your practical skills in drawing game concept art. You will examine how concept art is used within computer games and will use a variety of drawing media to develop skills in observational and experimental drawing. You will use these skills to visualise imagined characters, objects and locations for a game concept and will reflect on the quality of your work.
The unit provides an opportunity to develop skills in visual communication through drawing of game concept art to match an intended brief. It will also develop your ability to reflect critically on your own work, as you will need this skill in your future career.
The Beginning...!
1st task reflection- Creative experimentation-
- We were given a task of plainly 'doodleing' for 20 minuites. After this we reflected as a group on how our pages could be improved and what was successful.
- We were then given a restricted shape to focus our creation techniques, similar to the game 'scribble', we rotated the shape and added to it to produce many varied creations. I found this a very useful technique as it concentrated and restricted creativity which refined the outcome.
- We then showed a sequence of random pictures for a few seconds each, on paper we used word assosiasion (writing down 1st words that came to mind upon seeing the pictures), then taking 5 of those words we created a new artwork relating to them.
2nd task-Captions-
- Given 3 pictures, we came up with 5 different captions for each, I will upload photos as soon as possible.
- I found this interesting as it made me think ouside the box and interpret the image in many different ways.
Some time was spent setting up Gmail and log-ins and a blogger acount (which i already have but a new blog), I need to spend more time advancing my Mac skills...
